Qigong (sometimes spelt chi kung) is a meditative sequence of exercises with relaxed slow and deep breathing that focusses on gently opening and stretching the joints and muscles thereby releasing tension that may have accumulated in the body.
Qigong is a regular part of tai chi chuan training and when practiced consistently can improve the health, stamina and all round practice of this art. There are many health benefits from practicing qigong which include greater flexibility, improved breathing and aerobic fitness, lowered blood pressure, reduced anxiety and depression, chronic pain relief, strengthening the immune system and more!
The beginners Qigong set can be taught solely in a one hour class or included as part of a tai chi chuan class and can be practiced seated for those who have limited mobility.
